
Badminton Western Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of three new board members and the re-election of two existing members following the Annual General Meeting held on Saturday, April 6th, 2025.
Returning to the Board are Vice-President Mrs. Lily Buttrose and Secretary Mr. Brendan Bradley, who were both re-elected by the membership for another term of service. Their continued leadership and deep understanding of the sport’s needs provide vital continuity during an exciting period of growth and change for Badminton WA.
Joining the Board are three newly elected members:
- Mr. Charles Pan, who brings a strong business and governance background to the team. Charles holds a Master of Business Administration and a double Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Commerce from the University of Western Australia. He also previously served as a Board Member of Regional Development Australia – Perth, contributing to strategic planning and regional economic development.
- Mr. Daniel Fan, a highly respected figure in the Australian badminton community. Daniel currently serves as the Director of Badminton at Wesley College and has represented Australia at the 2019 World Championships. With a wealth of coaching experience and having worked with numerous national teams globally, Daniel brings high-performance insight and grassroots coaching expertise to the board.
- Mr. Nathan Chen, who contributes over 20 years of experience in IT project management and business improvement. Nathan is also an accredited umpire with Badminton Australia, adding operational and technical perspectives to governance discussions.
Ms. Christine Ferguson, President of Badminton WA, expressed her enthusiasm about the strengthened leadership group. “We’re delighted to welcome Charles, Daniel, and Nathan to the Board. Each brings unique expertise and fresh energy to our governance team. Coupled with the invaluable experience of our re-elected members, Lily and Brendan, we now have a dynamic and well-rounded Board to guide us into 2025 and beyond,” Ms. Ferguson said.
“This expanded capability will allow us to better share the workload and draw on the diverse insights and skills of all Board members. It comes at a crucial time as we work alongside our new Executive Officer and badminton stakeholders to deliver positive outcomes for our community across Western Australia.”
The Board looks forward to collaborating on a number of key initiatives in 2025, including facility expansion, grassroots program development, and strategic partnerships to grow the sport throughout metro and regional areas.
